During the middle of Winter, our thoughts often turn to exotic locations and travel plans. I like this large wallhanging a lot, I think it depicts a scene in Venice, a city I have never visited but would like to one day. It has been machine-woven in wool on a jacquard loom to resemble more expensive handwoven tapestries; it would have adorned the wall of a small French chateau or large house.

How beautiful. I have always wondered about these tapestries and the way they were colored and made. I sold one for nothing some time ago, not as lovely as this but I was not aware of its age. This one is really a gem.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like it Phyllis, I was going to sell it, but as I looked carefully at it and spent time photographing it, I realised that I can't part with it. I am thinking of rearranging my dining room, de-cluttering a bit and moving the dressers into my studio, and will try it out on one of the walls, it is about 7 feet tall, and should add a wondrous sense of faded grandeur to the room!
ReplyDeleteHi, Lois:
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that I'm stopping my blog for awhile, and it won't be visible to anyone in the meantime. Would you remove the link to it in your sidebar? I'm still following your blog, though!
I hope 2011 is a great year for you,
Stella xx
UAE shopping has never lost its cultural heritage. When it comes to high end shopping for our loving homes, hand woven carpets in Dubai do the needful. Wonderful knots which are made from high quality nylon and polyester etc which make the level so premium. We never want to give our beloved home solutions missing in quality and carpets from Dubai.
ReplyDeleteLois, I have one of these also, thanks for posting the info. Any idea on value?
ReplyDeleteI have the same tapestry of Venice, my father brought it home from WWII....it is in excellent condition...my mother has had it hanging on the wall in her living room for the last 40 years how much do you think that it is worth?
ReplyDeleteUnusually I can find no copy of the original painting on the web but I have an old print on cardboard. Does anyone know the name of the painting and where the original is displayed?
