Dragons, Birds & Flowers














One of my favourite French dealers turned up yet again with some really pretty pieces of French printed cottons and embroidery, all looking to be salvaged from large, damaged pieces as is often the way with French textiles. It seems that very little is thrown away as as worn-out or unwanted textiles were either saved and sold to the ragman, or put away to be re-used or recycled into something else at some point. I am convinced that this is why there are so many more old French textiles that survive, as the general British culture seems to be: out with the old in with the new...
