I am not sure about the age or origin of this gorgeous heraldic textile, it looks to be either hand-loomed or woven on an early machine loom. It is possibly made from wool or wool & hemp as far as I can tell from look and feel. The design is on a very small scale, but is packed with detail and interest. It is most likely a small piece of mid 19th century medieval revival upholstery fabric, but the romantic in me would like it to be a 16th or 17th century fragment! It was found in France. I may frame it at some point, it has a lovely sense of faded grandeur, and will look wonderful in my studio if I can find the right frame.
