An Oasis of Calm in My Studio of Chaos!

When the weather is as cold as it has been here in the UK since early December, I tend to find myself slowing down, becoming really lethargic; my get up and go has got up and gone. Don't get me wrong, I love winter and the beautiful snow that has been covering the country for weeks now, but I find I have to try really hard to get anything done apart from cooking, eating, relaxing and sleeping! I think my body is convinced it should be hibernating when it gets as cold as this.

Unfortunately that isn't possible as I run my business by myself from home. I have just about managed to keep sales and deliveries moving, but the flat has been growing steadily more and more chaotic and messy, as towers of textiles take over due to my apathy in clearing things away between work sessions!

At last, this morning, I decided that enough was enough, and have begun to sort out the chaos that is both my home and my work space! I have cleared away a tranquil lounging area in my studio, hung with a beautiful piece of 1780s toile, with French quilts and feather pillows c.1900. It has become my oasis of calm in my studio of chaos from where I can begin to plan & organise the rest of the chaos... Maybe tomorrow... Or maybe next week... In the meantime, I will live with the chaos, create a little more, and then retire to read & relax in my textile oasis & await the energising influence of Spring.

  1. I am with you in the winter workspace chaos...but your photos look so neat and inspiring! We are deep in the winter snow, too, and it does make one want to stay by the fire, or hibernate...or organize the piles of fabrics! Have a great new year...stay warm!

  3. Oh but look at what beautiful chaos it is. Any textile lover has a certain amount of chaos that surrounds them despite frequent tidy ups!!! My room is currently unphotographable!

Lizzie, I got to Ardingly and bought a few nice bits, but it was very sparse!

Stella, Happy New Year, enjoy your winter warmth!

Donna, So true, and I only photographed the 'presentable' parts...
